On November 4th, 2009, Virginia established a rebate program for the installation of solar photovoltaic panels for businesses and homeowners. Virginia alloted $15 million for the program. Unfortunately it was not enough and within 14 days the program was filled and suspended. Which leaves everyone who did not reserve a spot in the program hoping that Virginia will add more money, but given the economic downturn in the state, that is not likely. There is still a Federal Tax Credit of 30% of the total installation costs available to everyone, regardless of whether they have a political connection or not. There is also the difference in the amounts solar installers will charge to do the installations that can make a difference.

What are Solar Panels?

Solar Panels harvest sunlight and  convert it to electricity. Solar Cells (photovoltaic cells) are arranged in a grid-like pattern on the surface of the solar panel.  The solar voltaic cells collect sunlight during the day and covert it into electricity. A solar cell or photovoltaic cell is a device that converts solar energy into electricity by the photovoltaic effect .

Photovoltaic technology makes use of the abundant energy in the sun, and it has little impact on our environment.
